Apology and reconciliation
regarding wrongful use of image.
Becoming aware of a serious error in our booklet which breached rights of use for an image and also broke Tikanga / protocols through AI editing, we sought to engage with those most affected in a way that was open and honest. We had done a wrong. All were in agreement that this was not acceptable. It was a clear failure on our part. Those most affected have been gracious throughout. With initial connections made it was right that our actions match our words. Actions included a challenging and speedy stopping of our booklet delivery where it was up to, with hundreds of thousands of booklets disposed of through recycling by our own volunteers as a result. Within the process an agreed compensation was requested and given, which was then donated by its recipients to the work of Te Wānanga o Mou Taiaha of Mokoia. A hui was held at Tarimano Marae on 17th April at which the matter was discussed kanohi ki te kanohi. Grace was generously extended. We are humbled. We hurt many. We are sincere in our commitment to do much better.
